Last weekend I got the chance to go on a hiking trip with some friends in an area called Zhejiang. I have done some hiking in China before, but this is the first time I had really gotten off the beaten path on some rugged trails. It rained a lot and was really, really humid but overall a pretty great trip.
If there’s any food I miss when I am in the States it’s yakitori. It seems hard to find back home, but there are a few places in Shanghai that have really good yakitori. Last night Li, Jesse and I had a pretty amazing feast at my favorite place here in Shanghai and I couldn’t have been happier. Amazing food, amazing people.
For the past few days I have been settling in for a five week visit in Shanghai. I came back to visit friends and get out of the country for a bit. My friend Albert was nice enough to let me use some space in his new studio to work out of, so this will be my makeshift office for the next month or so.
A couple friends and I took a trip up to Portland and Seattle recently. The initial purpose was to attend the Oregon Brewers Festival, but really because of the amount of amazing Northwest beer the entire trip turned into a brewfest. A few select highlights of the trip would include sailing Lake Michigan, amazing sashimi at Maneki in Seattle, brewery hoping via bicycle and Pine State Biscuits in Portland. Portland has really grown on me over the years, I wouldn’t mind someday calling it home.
For the past few weeks I have been working with a new designer clothing label by the name of Mörkna. We recently launched the first stage of their website which showcases their Autumn 2011 line. I am really impressed with their designs and attention to detail. I have enjoyed working with them and look forward to helping with their online store in the coming weeks.
I am back to work today, and it’s been hard getting back in the groove. I could try writing about how beautiful it was and how much fun we had, but I think I will let the photos do the talking.
For the past eight days I have been soaking up massive amounts of sun and spending time with some of my closest friends in Kauai. A couple of my friends got married in the city of Waimea. I had been to Hawaii before, but never to this island and not for an occasion as special as this. I will write more about it later and post photos (I am pretty tired coming off a red eye flight), but it was a good past week to say the least. The video above is on a charter boat on our way the the Na’Pali Coast. The waters were full of Spinner Dolphins that would race along side the boat. Amazing.
Today I tried out a new place in Salt Lake City called 9th South Delicatessen. As the name implies it’s in the quaint area of 9th South and 9th East. The deli is in an older renovated house and they have done a really nice job of converting it to a little eatery. It also has a nice patio which we chose to take advantage of. The menu mainly consists of sandwiches, soups and salads (as you would expect from a deli). I can’t remember the exact name of the sandwich I chose. It was the number 10 on the menu, a turkey, bacon and pesto sandwich. Overall it wasn’t bad. Fresh ingredients, but a tad bland. I also wish they had different bread choices. I will most likely go back, but this place can’t compare to my favorite sandwich joints in town.
For those of you who don’t know I am quite a beer enthusiast. Today I came across the website for Austin Beerworks and was instantly impressed with not only the website itself, but also the branding and package design. The design was done at the hands of a firm (also located in Austin) called Helms Workshop that has some other very nice work as well.
A couple months ago I posted about some conceptual work I was doing with a package design for the Bank of Utah. We received the final printed product last week and I am really happy with it. Check out the full project.
